Now Accepting Applications for Dakota Discussions Fall 2011! The North Dakota Humanities Council is now accepting applications for the fall cycle of its popular book series Dakota Discussions. Last year’s Dakota Discussions line up oftopics from immigration, Jane Eyre, classical banned books, formerly banned books, Hamlet, America By Food, and Great American Novels is joined with a brand new series entitled “Making Sense of the American Civil War.” The previous season of Dakota Discussions reached thirty-nine North Dakota communities throughout the state. The North Dakota Humanities has received growing acclaim in our book discussions, and that’s a trend we hope never goes away. North Dakota civic groups, book clubs, and interested citizens should apply immediately for the opportunity to bring a Dakota Discussions series to your community. Dakota Discussions is not simply another book discussion group. Instead, Dakota Discussions hopes to teach citizens to love classical literature and increases the level and amount of literature citizens consume. It strives to help strengthen critical thinking skills and foster civil discourse between citizens by creating a space that encourages the exchange of ideas and questions.
