The North Dakota Humanities Council (NDHC) will be hosting its annual spring meeting in Ellendale on April 17, 2015.
Three Ellendale natives have served on the NDHC board over the years including alumni Jane Boekelheide Ahlin and Ann Whelan and current board member Ken Schmierer. In the last ten years the NDHC has funded sixty-three public humanities programs in Ellendale, including two traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
According to NDHC executive director Brenna Gerhardt, “For a small town, Ellendale is full of big ideas. I am always impressed by the caliber of programs the community offers and the passion of the volunteers who make them happen. I always look forward to seeing what they will do next.”
To celebrate the continued collaboration with the community of Ellendale, the NDHC will sponsor two upcoming events at the Ellendale Opera House:
Rockin The Bakken
7:00 PM, Thursday, April 16
Singer, songwriter, photographer and writer Jessie Veeder will perform a 45 minute concert featuring her hit single “Boom Town.” A reception and meet-and-greet with NDHC staff and board members will follow.
Man Camp Dialogues 7:00 PM, Friday, April 17
Scholars from the ongoing North Dakota Man Camp Project will share their research and engage communities in a discussion of how man camps have changed the lives and histories of these communities.
All events are free and open to the public.
